Capturing Cooly Rocks On
Every event has its own energy, but Cooly Rocks On is something truly special.
When Experience Gold Coast asked me to photograph Cooly Rocks On, I jumped at the opportunity. My role was to capture a collection of images for their marketing and PR, documenting everything from the atmosphere and entertainment to sponsor activations, branding and the overall experience of one of the Gold Coast’s biggest annual events.
Believe it or not, I’d never actually been to Cooly Rocks On before.
After spending the weekend there, I can honestly say I understand why so many people travel from all over Australia to experience it. If you’ve never been, make sure you put it on your calendar for next year.
From the moment I arrived, the streets of Coolangatta were absolutely packed. Everywhere I looked there was something happening. Live music on every corner, Elvis performers, Pin-up girls, incredible vintage cars, dancers, entertainers and thousands of people enjoying everything the festival had to offer.
One of the things I love most about photographing major events like this is that no two moments are ever the same. One minute I’m photographing a sponsor activation or branded experience, the next I’m on stage with Elvis capturing him and atmosphere in the crowd, the dancers and incredible classic cars rolling through the streets. Every image becomes part of the story, helping event organisers showcase the experience and promote future events.
As an event photographer on the Gold Coast, I know that great event photography isn’t just about taking nice photos. It’s about creating images that have a purpose. Whether they’re used for marketing campaigns, social media, media releases, websites or sponsor reports, professional photography helps extend the life of an event long after the final performance has ended.
The Gold Coast certainly turned it on for the weekend. The weather couldn’t have been better, the atmosphere was incredible and there was a real vibe from start to finish. Heres some highlights.
