Excellence in Civil Awards | Brisbane Event Photography & Videography

Awards Event Photography & Videography at The Star BRISBANE
What a night!
We recently had the opportunity to photograph the Excellence in Civil Awards at The Star Brisbane, with more than 600 guests coming together for one of the biggest nights on the Civil Construction Industry calendar.
With an event this size, there is so much happening at once, so we had a team of two photographers and a videographer covering the night for Social Tribe.
From the moment guests started arriving, the ballroom looked incredible. We captured the room before everyone entered, the styling and sponsor details, guests catching up over drinks, teams together at their tables and all those candid moments that really show the atmosphere of a big gala awards night.
Once the awards started, that’s when having two photographers really came into its own.
While one of us was positioned to capture the official award presentations on stage, the other could concentrate on the media wall with a full studio lighting setup at the media wall ready for the award recipients as they came off stage. This meant every winner could have a beautifully lit, professional photograph with their award rather than relying on the available ballroom lighting.
For the businesses attending, these photos are so valuable. They’re not just memories from the night — they’re content that can be used across LinkedIn, websites, media releases, internal communications and marketing.
One of the biggest parts of our setup for this event was instant photo delivery, and this is where event photography is really changing.
Guests having photos with their teams could access them straight away, which meant they could be posting to LinkedIn and sharing their night while they were actually at the event rather than waiting until the following day for the gallery.
But what I really loved was seeing how the Civil Contractors media team used it.
They had someone working behind the scenes with Canva templates ready to go. As each award winner was announced and photographed, the images were available almost immediately. Their team could take the winning photo, drop it straight into their prepared graphic and post the announcement live.
So while more than 600 people were celebrating inside the ballroom, everyone following the awards online could see who was winning in real time.
For me, that’s such a game changer for corporate events and awards night photography.
Event photography has traditionally been something that gets delivered after the event. Now, it can actually become part of the event’s live marketing strategy.
Alongside the photography, our videographer was capturing all the movement and energy of the evening — the ballroom, guests, presentations, celebrations and all the little moments in between. Having our photography and videography team working together meant we could cover so much of the night without missing the important moments.
It was a huge event to photograph, but these are exactly the kinds of nights I love.
A beautiful ballroom, more than 600 guests, some very excited award winners and a lot happening behind the scenes to make sure the organisers, media team and attending businesses had the content they needed.
And seeing images being photographed, delivered and used online while the event was still happening was pretty incredible.
Social Tribe provides corporate event photography and videography across the Gold Coast, Brisbane and Australia, including conferences, gala dinners, awards nights and large corporate events. We also offer instant photo delivery, studio lighting and multi-photographer coverage for events where there is simply too much happening for one photographer to be everywhere at once.
